Scholars will gather in Rome on 14–15 September 2026 for the international conference “Multidisciplinary Perspectives on the Right Not to Use the Internet”, hosted by the Polish Academy of Sciences Scientific Center in Rome.

The conference will provide an interdisciplinary forum for discussing the concept of the right not to use the Internet as both an individual choice and a potential human right in the digital age. Participants will examine the legal, social and political dimensions of voluntary disengagement from digital technologies, as well as its broader implications for individuals, public institutions and society. The programme will bring together researchers from law, sociology, political science and related disciplines, fostering an interdisciplinary dialogue on one of the key challenges of the digital era.
Hosted in the heart of Rome, the conference will provide an inspiring setting for international academic dialogue, open discussion and networking among researchers and practitioners interested in digital rights, digital inclusion and the future of human rights in an increasingly digital society.

The conference is organised within the framework of the “The Right to (Not) Use the Internet: Observatory” project, funded by the National Science Centre (NCN, Poland) under the OPUS LAP 26 programme in cooperation with the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO, Belgium).
